For the longest time, tailored pants where synonymous in my mind with work.... and by work I mainly mean student placements.... But yes, then actual work.
They were definitely an underrated item in my wardrobe. You know, when you're stuck wearing certain clothes for work, you always want to branch out into other parts of your wardrobe on your days off. Which is understandable right? But lately, I think a suit-esque pant is becoming more than just a work wardrobe staple.
For me personally, the meld perfectly into my already somewhat androgynous style but also add a preppy touch. It also brings a little more life to a plain old t-shirt and pants outfit. So when you're looking for an easy outfit but still want to up the ante in someway, why not pair a tailored pant back with a tee and some sneakers? It's a little less expected than the usual denim fall-back (not that I'm ever opposed to wearing denim). But it alsostill fits in that semi-casual, effortless box that is sometimes so incredibly difficult to tick.
There are many takes on the trend, and different ways to make it feel fresh and unlike a work uniform.
COLOUR
If this is your thing, think about mixing it up with a colour that you wouldn't or couldn't otherwise wear to work. Perhaps a bright red (which is definitely having a moment right now). Or maybe khaki/camel for a somewhat more neutral and safari-esque (but in a good way) vibe.
AN UNLIKELY PRINT
Again, maybe this is your thing, maybe it isn't. Personally, I always opt for a straight colour or a subtle pin-stripe. But there are some great prints out there, that may otherwise be too "loud" for the workplace.
A SPORTY TOUCH
Lately, I'm becoming obsessed with sport-luxe again. But this time around, its a little more subtle. I've been lusting over a number of tailored pants or dressy jogger style pants that have a simple contrast side stripe down the side. It adds a little something something without adding too much.
OTHER UNEXPECTED DETAILS
This could be how it buttons up at the top i.e. a feature zip of feature buttons (Hansen & Gretel have an amazing pair coming soon, just an FYI). Or it could be something around the leg, i.e. zip detailing, a subtle flare or ruffle, or little cutaway at the ankle to expose a little extra skin (I know, scandalous right?).
